Hi again everyone. I had a request to show my Great War Russians, so here they are (some of them, anyway). There's a longer write up on my blog (linked in my signature) around my thoughts on basing/painting them, but the summary is it's hard to make drab green uniforms stand out in 6mm. Cheers!

They do look very nice. TBH drab green was adopted so that the troops didn't stand out so much. I have also stopped using flock/static grass on my bases, preferring instead to use Winsor and Newton's modelling paste, which produces little ridges, and finishing with one or two applications of drybrushing.

We agree with Dourpuritan, We just add some tufts on the bases and and especially for the moderne uniform figures.

These are superb and really inspiring, really helps demonstrate the benefits of 6mm for WW1.

I honestly can't imagine doing WW1 in another scale. For a war that had battles of such mass, doing anything bigger than 6mm would just restrict the troops on the table too much.

That was the problem, originally tried in 15mm as everyone else was using this scale, however to my mind as soon as you use anything over a couple of companies it begins to become crowded and starts to look somewhat Napoleonic and nothing like the early WW1 footage you see on the documentaries with wide open flanks. (Summer 1914 campaign).

I particularly want to do RCW so wide open steppes are a must so 6mm seems the ay to go!.
